Omnitron supports Orange County mobile backhaul efforts
November 9, 2010Omnitron Systems Technology says it is providing equipment that enables mobile backhaul to new cell towers constructed along the SR 241 and 261 toll roads in Orange County, CA. Omnitron’s iConverter multi-service platform enables Ethernet and TDM backhaul for wireless carriers AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Metro PCS, who share these communication facilities. The project aims to provide seamless cell service to the thousands of drivers using mobile devices who travel on the toll roads each day.
Xilinx Virtex-6 HXT FPGAs target optical transceivers
November 9, 2010Xilinx Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) has announced the immediate availability of Virtex-6 HXT FPGAs that Xilinx says support 40-Gbps and 100-Gbps line cards with flexible port configurations including 1x40 Gbps, 4x10 Gbps, 1x100 Gbps and 10x10 Gbps. Additionally, Virtex-6 HXT FPGAs support the long reach optical requirements of next-generation communications equipment without the need for external re-timer circuitry because of the FPGA’s transceiver jitter performance, Xilinx asserts.
Telebras taps Padtec for DWDM systems

Fulcrum Releases 10G/40G Switch
November 8, 2010Fulcrum Microsystems today announced the FocalPoint® FM6000 series of fully integrated wire-speed 10G and 40G Ethernet switch chips, which incorporate the company’s new and innovative Alta high-speed Ethernet switching architecture.
One key new feature of the FM6000 series switches is Fulcrum’s FlexPipe™ low-latency packet-processing pipeline, which can parse, modify and apply multiple rules to traffic at more than 1 Billion packets per second in a completely deterministic manner. FlexPipe also can be upgraded in the field to support future data center networking protocols as they emerge.
360networks goes 100G
November 8, 2010360networks has selected Alcatel-Lucent to supply elements of its Converged Backbone Transformation (CBT) line, the latter says. The CBT portfolio combines IP and optical technologies and supports transmission speeds of 100 Gbps.
SFP+
November 8, 2010SFP+ (Small Form-Factor Pluggable Plus) is the second generation of the SFP interconnect systems designed for 10G performance. Initially, it is targeted to support speeds of 10Gbps for next-generation Gigabit Ethernet applications. It is smaller than any of the currently form factors and provides the highest density per line card.
