Telebras taps Padtec for DWDM systems

Padtec will supply its LightPad i1600G platform, which is capable of transmission rates of 40-Gbps per channel, for a system capacity of more than 3 Tbps.

Telebras posted a Notice of Auction in October for DWDM equipment for the national network. “It is noteworthy that the solution will be deployed in various states of Brazil,” the post read in part. The network is part of a plan to bring low-cost, high-speed broadband to 4,283 municipalities by 2014. Telebrás will use optical fibers belonging to the electrical company Eletrobras and oil and gas supplier Petrobras. Telebrás plans to sell wholesale broadband access services to ISPs and carriers wishing to reach the network’s end users.
