UNIFI taps Alcatel-Lucent for undersea cable to Albania
November 2, 2010UNIFI Communications, a US-based international carrier, and Alcatel-Lucent have signed a Balkans-Italy Network (BIN) Phase 1 supply contract. With the signing, Alcatel-Lucent will provide turn-key implementation of Albania’s first private undersea fiber-optic cable system, which will connect Tirana, Albania to Bari, Italy. The network is expected to begin providing service by the end of 2011.

10GE
November 1, 201010GE or 10GbE or 10 GigE or 10 Gigabit Ethernet is the fastest Ethernet standard for hard-wired local area networks (LANs) since 2005. It crowns the latest in a long list of Ethernet technologies standardized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in their specification 802.3x. The 10GE network operates at a rate of 10 gigabits per second (gbps), or ten times faster than standard GbE. Ethernet cabling is used to connect computers to hard-wired networks used in businesses, on campuses, and in homes. Over the years, the technology of transmitting digital signals across Ethernet cabling, including the cabling itself, has evolved to allow faster data transfer rates.
