The hot pluggable module is also fully interchangeable with STM-1 optical SFP modules.
H.I.G. Europe acquires Fibercore from Cisco
February 17, 2011H.I.G. Europe, the European arm of global private equity firm H.I.G. Capital, announced that funds advised by H.I.G. European Capital Partners LLP have acquired Fibercore, Ltd., a U.K.-based global designer and manufacturer of specialty optical fibers, from Cisco.
Etisalat deploys Ciena for 40G backbone network
February 15, 2011Ciena Corp. (NASDAQ: CIEN) says that Middle East telecommunications operator Etisalat Group has deployed Ciena’s ActivSpan 4200 Advanced Services Platform (formely known as the CN 4200 FlexSelect) for a major upgrade of its transport optical network in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The new network provides Etisalat with a 40-Gbps national backbone, carrying packet/IP core traffic across more than 40 locations in the UAE.
Optelian, Bharat Electronics partner for optical networking systems
February 15, 2011Optelian says it has signed a technology collaboration agreement (TCA) between Optelian International Corp. and Bharat Electronics Ltd. (BEL) of India. The agreement establishes a long-term partnership for the manufacture and design of optical networking systems in India, and deployment throughout the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region.
Optical transceiver market rose 30% in 2010
January 25, 2011Global sales of optical interface modules used in telecom and datacom networks exceeded $2.5 billion in 2010, increasing by 30% from the year before, says market research firm LightCounting. The growth was driven by sales of 10-Gbps SFP+ and DWDM modules, including 40-Gbps and even 100-Gbps products, LightCounting says. Sales of wavelength-selective switch (WSS) modules used in ROADMs and tunable lasers were also strong in 2010, growing at 34% and 14%, respectively, the company adds.
