On March 10, 2011,Alliance Fiber Optic Products, Inc. (NASDAQ CM: AFOP) announced that it has entered into an Amended and Restated Rights Agreement. The Restated Rights Agreement amends and restates an original Rights Agreement dated as of May 29, 2001 to among other things: amend and otherwise adjust the Rights issued pursuant to the original agreement such that a single Right is, as of the restatement date, associated with each share of the Company’s common stock and extend the final expiration date for the Rights by ten years to May 29, 2021.
Google Chooses Its Fiber-Networked City Of The Future

Back in February 2010, Google announced its plans to build out a fiber-optic network for a city in the United States, promising connection speeds around 1Gb/s — 100 times faster than the broadband most people are used to. The announcement led 1,100 cities to apply, and today Google has just announced the winning city: Kansas City, Kansas.

Fujikura has announced a contract extension with Belgian incumbent operator, Belgacom, for the company’s fusion splicer products. Through its Belgium-based distributor, Crosswise, Fujikura will supply to Belgacom its 50S fusion splicer and newly upgraded CT-30A fiber cleaver.
Heavy Reading: 2011 the year for 100G

"In a Heavy Reading survey, network capacity exhaust and better economics compared with 10G were identified as two of the top three drivers for 100G transport. Historically, when these drivers are met, transport technology becomes a mass-market or 'default' solution in the network."

CyOptics introduces compact PM-QPSK receivers
March 26, 2011CyOptics Inc. has announced the availability of its 40-Gbps and 100-Gbps polarization-multiplexed quadrature phase-shift-keying (PM-QPSK) integrated coherent receivers for 40G and 100G coherent DWDM transmission systems. The RX-PMQPSK-40 (40 Gbps) and RX-PMQPSK-100 (100 Gbps) coherent receivers integrate two matched 90° optical hybrids, four high-speed balanced detector pairs, and four differential linear TIAs with manual and automatic gain control.
