Teijin Aramid's new tape protects fiber-optic cables

Teijin Aramid has unveiled Twaron Tape, which features an aramid fiber matrix construction that enables to protect optical fiber cables with a diameter as small as 1.2 mm. The tape offers 3X to 5X better crush resistance than current aramid fiber protection, the company asserts.

Indiana starts 100GbE research and education network

March 19, 2012

The State of Indiana has started a 100-Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE) research and education network using routers from Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD). The Monon100 network is up to 10X faster than current networks in the state and will enable Indiana University scientists, medical researchers, and students to share and expedite the processing of the massive amounts of data created by modern digital instruments, such as revolutionary DNA sequencers, advanced electron microscopes and large-particle accelerators such as the Large Hadron Collider.

Next-generation digital cable broadband transmitter in Vecima

Vecima Networks Inc. (TSX:VCM) that it will begin a design program aimed at the development of what it called “a next-generation, extremely high density broadband cable transmitter” for a major cable broadband access company it declined to further identify. Vecima will collaborate on the design with a chip manufacturer the company also would not identify.
