FCC ponders FTTN versus FTTH for Link America Fund
June 12, 2012The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) this past Friday, June 8, issued a public notice that its Wireline Competition Bureau is seeking public comments on the cost model it will use to help guide its deployment of Connect America Fund (CAF) Phase II money. Among the items up for consideration is whether the cost model should assume a fiber to the home (FTTH) or a DSL/fiber to the node (FTTN) infrastructure.
Finisar looks revenue slide continuing

Fujitsu is awarded 77 optical networking patents in 2011
June 12, 2012Fujitsu Network Communications says it was awarded 77 patents by the US Patent and Trademark Office in 2011, 35 more than the company receiving the second-most. In fact, Fujitsu claims that its photonics research and development has garnered 447 patents since 2006 – 40 more than any other optical technology provider.

Corning Cable enters drop cable for easy FTTH installation
June 12, 2012Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Inc.’s (NYSE:GLW) telecommunications segment, has introduced a new drop cable aimed at fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) markets. The company claims that ROC Dielectric Drop Cables with FastAccess technology enables faster and easier removal of the cable jacket, which reduces fiber access time by up to 55% when compared to traditional drop cables.
Verizon starts backbone convergence
June 11, 2012Verizon (NYSE, NASDAQ: VZ) has begun work on converging its four packet backbone networks into a single global IP infrastructure based on MPLS, Executive Vice President and CTO Tony Melone told attendees yesterday at TIA 2012: Inside the Network during his keynote address.
