Telecom Italia Sparkle touts network expansion, 100G upgrade
TI Sparkle, the international services arm of Telecom Italia Group, reports that it has expanded its IP backbone fiber-optic network with two new points of presence (PoPs) in Fortaleza, northern Brazil, and in Panama City, and upgraded its Americas backbone to 100 Gbps.
These two new points of presence in Central and South America increase the reach of Sparkle’s global backbone and will further improve the performance of Sparkle’s “Seabone” global IP transit service being offered to content and service providers in the region, thus providing an improved Internet experience for end users.
Panama is a major hub in the region and the new PoP will provide Internet service providers, content players, and multinational corporations located in Central America with lower latency and improved traffic routing capabilities.
The new PoP in Fortaleza is TI Sparkle’s fourth PoP in Brazil and thanks to its proximity to Miami, it will further improve performance in one of the world’s most crucial routes between North and South America.
The upgrade of the Americas Backbone to 100 Gbps also enables a higher service quality for TI Sparkle customers in the region as it introduces efficiencies in provisioning and fault management, thus increasing overall network reliability at the same time as boosting backbone capacity.
“TI Sparkle is currently ranked #1 in Renesys' South American Wholesale Ranking and significantly ahead of its main competitors,” said Elisabetta Ripa, CEO of TI Sparkle. The expansion and upgrade make TI Sparkle is the ideal choice for top quality North to South American IP connectivity, she asserts.
TI Sparkle did not reveal its 100G optical transport technology supplier.
