Severed Fiber Optic Cable Again Disrupts 911 Service
A fiber optic cable cut accidentally by a contractor on June 14, was again severed on Saturday by a farmer working near the same line. 911 emergency calling was again affected in the Jamestown and Valley City areas and long-distance calling was again disrupted. As before, 911 calls for Stutsman County were rerouted to State Radio in Bismarck. By 4 p.m., 911 calls from the 251, 252, and 253 prefixes were rerouted to Stutsman County Dispatch and Dakota Central calls were rerouted to State Radio in Bismarck, according to Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist.
Bergquist has said that the county planned purchase of new 911 equipment later this year will reduce the chances of such outages, because it will expand the ways for emergency services to connect with callers.
