Zayo to build 100G backbone fiber-optic network

Hurricane Electric Internet Services has purchased 100G Wavelength services on Zayo's recently deployed 100G network.

Zayo describes the Hurricane Electric network as the world's largest IPv6-native Internet backbone. It connects 60 major exchange points and exchanges traffic directly with more than 2700 other networks. The fiber-optic network features four redundant paths across North America, two paths between the U.S. and Europe, and rings in Europe and Asia. Hurricane Electric also owns and operates two data centers in Fremont, CA.

Zayo asserts that its new 100G capabilities will provide a latency improvement versus prior service applications, as well as reduce management requirements and cost per gigabit.

"The 100G Wavelength technology helps Hurricane Electric meet growing bandwidth needs and provides operational and cost efficiencies over previous platform options," said Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric. "Additionally, this fortifies our commitment to providing neutral and scalable Internet connectivity with high reliability."

"Installation of our newly implemented 100G Wave system along major U.S. routes allows Zayo to leverage the latest generation technology to meet the capacity demands of customers like Hurricane Electric," says Zach Nebergall, vice president of the Waves Product Group at Zayo. "This service delivers increased capacity and cost efficiency, as well as improved latency through the latest technology."
