BT Openreach goes live with 80 Mbps FTTC service

Any new customer that signs up for BT Infinity service 2 will be able to get up to 76 Mbps downstream speeds, doubling the 38 Mbps speeds that were previously available. Likewise, the new speed tier will also increase the upstream speed to up to 19 Mbps.

Customers that opt for the BTInfinity Option 2 package, which consists of a bundle of "unlimited" data usage with free WiFi minutes, free connection, free evening and weekend calls, in addition to a free HomeHub3 router and advanced security features costs from £20 ($32) per month for the first 3 months, then £26 ($43) thereafter.

With Infinity 1, users will see upload speeds increase from 1.9 Mbps to up to 9.5 Mbps and downstream speeds of 38 Mbps.

Existing BT customers who switch to the Infinity service will be able to get the faster speeds by signing a new contract, but they won't have to pay extra.
