Zayo doubles reach of Nashville area fiber network
Zayo Group has put the finishing touches on its network expansion in the Nashville area, doubling its fiber route mile reach to 104 miles. By adding these miles, the service provider will be able to provide its suite of dark fiber, Ethernet and wavelength services to the cities of Franklin, Brentwood and Oak Hill, Tenn.
The Nashville project is part of Zayo's broader move to up its network holdings throughout Tennessee.
Already offering metro and long haul optical services in both Johnson City and Kingsport, it recently completed network expansions in Memphis including an extension of its fiber to the tower (FTTT) network into Northern Mississippi. It also offers carrier-neutral colocation services in Nashville and Memphis via its zColo subsidiary.
Overall, Zayo's effort in the area will help fill what Vertical Systems Group calls the "fiber gap" for U.S. businesses. While 31.8 percent of U.S. commercial buildings now have fiber connectivity, up from 27.7 percent in 2010, the reality is that over 68 percent still don't have a fiber connection.
