U.S. helps Kenya create broadband, universal service framework

Under the terms of the agreement between the CCK and United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S. government will help Kenya to extend services to areas of the country that have either little or new ICT services.

According to the CCK's ‘ICT Access Gaps' study, almost 1,120 subscriber locations out of the 7,149 in the country don't have any telecom service, including voice services, at all.

Kenya's wireline-based broadband penetration is remains low. As of the end of 2011, only 1 percent of the country's 50,000 subscribers had a broadband connection.
