Level 3 switches German data centers to renewable energy
Level 3 Communications (Nasdaq: LVLT) is moving its Going Green initiative further as it switched its five German colocation data centers to renewable energy.
Germany is the second market where the service provider has converted to renewable energy. Previously, it converted its London data centers to run 100 percent on green energy sources.
By converting the five data centers, which are located in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich, Level 3 said it will be able to reduce its carbon emissions this year by almost 29,400 tons.
While Level 3 is certainly not alone in converting its data centers to cleaner energy, achieving this goal in two key European markets gives it another differentiator to attract new customers to their colocation facilities, as well as the ability to pass on potential cost savings to existing customers.
