Gigalight commercializes 40G QSFP+ AOC components

Gigalight says it has commercialized 40-Gbps QSFP+ active optical cable (AOC) components, which it asserts is a first for a company based in China.

The 4x10-Gbps QSFP+ AOC features a pair of QSFP+ optical transceivers connected with ribbon OM3 multimode fiber cable. The 40G parallel optical module leverages four 850-nm VCSELs and four PIN receivers, each operating at 10 Gbps. Such AOCs are used in supercomputer and SDR, DDR, and QDR InfiniBand applications.

Gigalight says the 40G QSFP+ AOC is the result of an eight-month development effort, with design of the four-channel VCSEL array and matching PIN array a major focus. High-level circuit, software, and structure design, as well as the production of passive optical devices, were among the core competencies used. Gigalight also used its proprietary FA coupling technology and Xili semiconductor-based optical waveguide product line.

The company says the parallel optical transceiver platform can be expanded for greater transmission capacity, including 12x10-Gbps. Gigalight says it will apply the lessons learned to the production of 100G CFP-SR10 devices.

Gigalight will display QSFP+ and CXP AOCs together with high-speed error detection instruments at the upcoming CIOE show, September 6-9 in Shenzhen.
