Bulloch Telephone opts for ADTRAN Optical Network Edge, FTTH

ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN) says that Bulloch Telephone Cooperative of Georgia is deploying the systems provider’s Optical Network Edge (ONE) and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technologies to help serve its 8,500 residential and business customers in Bulloch County, GA. The ONE and FTTH capabilities leverage ADTRAN’s flagship Total Access 5000 platform.

“Our customers want high-value voice, video and data services, and they want them delivered quickly and cost effectively,” said Dennis Lewis, General Manager, Bulloch Telephone Cooperative. “ADTRAN’s technology and team provided us with the best solution to meet these needs effectively and efficiently which supplied us with a scalable platform we can build on over time.”

The ONE feature set adds packet-optical transport capabilities to the Total Access 5000. Launched in 2010 (see “ADTRAN joins packet optical transport race with Optical Networking Edge family”), the ONE line has been expanded at least twice to add Ethernet (see “ADTRAN adds features to Optical Networking Edge line”) and Optical Transport Network (OTN) and mini-ROADM (see “ADTRAN adds OTN, mini-ROADM to Optical Networking Edge family”) features. As the ONE name trumpets, ADTRAN positions the capabilities as designed specifically for edge network applications, as an alternative to packet-optical transport alternatives that may have been designed with applications deeper in the network originally in mind.
