AboveNet uses ancotel to extend its European Ethernet footprint
AboveNet (NYSE: ABVT), which is in the process of being acquired by Zayo, is enhancing its European Ethernet network presence by establishing a connection into ancotel's Kleyer90 data-center facility.
Focused on serving international wholesale customers, the agreement with ancotel enables the White Plains, N.Y.-based provider and its customers to get access to over 440 service providers in over 63 countries.
It can now extend its 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps Ethernet service to a wide host of VoIP providers, broadband providers, hosting companies, content delivery networks, cloud networking companies and enterprises.
This agreement with ancotel does two things for AboveNet.
Not only is Frankfurt a major European financial hub, which AboveNet itself can target with its set of low latency network services, but it can also use ancotel's data center to provide its customers a gateway between Western and Eastern Europe.
An estimated 75 percent of the traffic that comes in and out of ancotel's data center is routed to locations outside of Germany, a key consideration for other carriers and multi-site enterprises that are trying to expand their respective European presence.
