IMT Unveils 48 Port 10 Gigabit Managed Switch
Interface Masters Technologies, a provider of high speed networking systems, announced a new 48 Port 10 gigabit managed switch, Niagara 2948, which is designed to integrate with data center, blade servers, carrier Ethernet and metro Ethernet devices, HPC clusters, enterprise storage systems, IT security appliances and central office applications.
The new Niagara 2948 leverages leading-edge 10GE technology based on Marvell's (News - Alert) Prestera 10-GigE packet processor. It is the latest addition to the company’s 8, 16 and 24 port solutions. This high port density switching technology allows speed flexibility allowing each port to transmit at 10Gbps or 1Gbps via SFP+ or SFP pluggable connectors.
Featuring 48 ports of 10G line-rate switching throughput in a 1U form factor, the Niagara 2948 is built for optimal flexibility enabling multi-mode, single-mode, extended-mode fiber media configuration and direct attached cabling for Copper SFP+ connectivity.
The Niagara 2948 is incorporated with advanced management capabilities such as Syslog, TACACS+, RMON, secure WEB and CLI management, SSH and HTTPS support. It also possesses a powerful and full-featured software suite that can be managed remotely via the management or console port, enabling full control over line-rate switching, routing and filtering.
Basic Layer 2 switching features of Niagara 2948 include transparent and VLAN aware bridging, IGMP, spanning tree protocol, and link aggregation support. Advanced Layer 2 switching features of Niagara 2948 includes support for MPLS and advanced VLAN tunneling.
Some of the routing features of Niagara 2948 include IPv4, NAT, and IPv6 unicast/multicast, virtual-routing and router redundancy. And, quality of service features includes traffic prioritization queuing, policing, shaping, advanced flow, access and priority control, and rate limiting.
The Niagara 2948 joins Interface Masters (News - Alert) Technologies’ Managed switch product series that also includes an 8 port 10GbE Managed Switch, the Niagara 2916, a 16 Port GbE Managed Switch and Niagara 2924, a 24 Port 10GbE managed Switch.
Officials with Interface Masters Technologies said that the company’s Niagara Managed Switch series utilizes Marvell 10GE switch chip's extensive feature set to significantly improve server efficiency, packet processing, power utilization, and data transfer speeds. This facilitates the series to enable 10GE line-rate throughput realization in any datacenter deployment.
