Severed Fiber Optic Cable Again Disrupts 911 Service
June 25, 2012A fiber optic cable cut accidentally by a contractor on June 14, was again severed on Saturday by a farmer working near the same line. 911 emergency calling was again affected in the Jamestown and Valley City areas and long-distance calling was again disrupted. As before, 911 calls for Stutsman County were rerouted to State Radio in Bismarck. By 4 p.m., 911 calls from the 251, 252, and 253 prefixes were rerouted to Stutsman County Dispatch and Dakota Central calls were rerouted to State Radio in Bismarck, according to Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist.
GlobeNet undersea cable route to connect Colombia & Miami
June 24, 2012GlobeNet, a provider of submarine capacity and a subsidiary of Brazil’s Oi, has announced plans for an express route from its future landing on Colombia’s Atlantic coast to Miami. UNE EPM Telecomunicaciones, the largest Internet provider in Colombia where it also acts as a full-service telecom operator, has signed a long-term agreement with GlobeNet to become the anchor tenant on the new subsea route.
New York City releases broadband initiatives
